What does it do?

A chemical peel is a treatment used to improve skin texture and tone. An acid is applied to skin to lower the pH, which loosens the connections between dead skin cells, inducing exfoliation and stimulating new cell growth. This process causes superficial layers of dead skin to shed, revealing a smoother and more radiant complexion. Chemical peels can also thicken the epidermis, increase dermal volume and stimulate collagen.

After every Peel treatment, you are given a skincare kit worth £25 to take home with you. This includes your full skincare routine for the next 5 days. Please only use the skincare you have been given for after the treatment, other brands may cause irritation, shedding and sensitivity and we cannot guarantee any results when using other brands.

One of my favourite skin treatments, especially when teamed with Dermalux. The results are like a facial x10. Nothing to be afraid of!

— Rachel

I never, in a million years, thought that my skin would ever look this goooooddd. I’ve already noticed (and so have many others) that my skin has improved significantly (including a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and acne scarring), after only three AlumierMD Glow peels, and now no longer feel the need to cover up in makeup everyday. I love SKIN Lounge! x

FAQs

FAQs

What happens during a peel?

We thoroughly cleanse your skin and apply a variety of luxury products to prep the skin for the peel. The peel solution is then applied methodically to the skin. After the peel we then use a brightening serum and Vitamin A to add an extra boost and use specific luxurious products to end your facial treatment including a Recovery Balm and an SPF.

Does a peel hurt?

No, sometimes you feel nothing at all. We call the sensation a ‘stingle’, a strong tingling but only for a few minutes whilst the peel is on the skin.

Will my skin fall off?

No, you can have some light shedding (dry skin) a couple of days after the treatment but most people have nothing at all.

Is it safe?

Very safe. However like most treatments it has some medical limitations. A free consultation is recommended if you have any additional questions or would like further advice as to whether this is the right treatment for you.

How is this different to Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion can use two different methods – either an applicator with an abrasive surface or the spraying of fine particles to sand away the dead skin. Peels only use solutions which are applied to the skin and monitored thoroughly, these cause the dead skin cells to loosen from the living skin and shed naturally revealing a radiant complexion.

When should I shave if I’m having a facial peel?

We suggest shaving 72 hours before and after a peel. By doing this, it ensures that we will be able to successfully carry out the peel with little irritation. Once the hairs have been shaved, we will be able to apply the solutions directly onto the skin rather than to beard hair. Shaving too near to the appointment would mean the skin may still be repairing and the solutions would be too active. If shaving wounds are visible we would not be able to carry out the treatment.

Can I still use my Retinol?

Make sure that you have stopped using Retinol 7 days prior to your treatment. This ensures that the skin has not been challenged too much in the lead up to the appointment and is then stable for the peel solutions.

I have been using Roaccutane for Acne, can I still have a peel?

Depending on severity of the acne, you must be off Roaccutane for 6-12 months before having an Alumier Peel treatment. We would start with building an effective skincare routine at home before this treatment and ease the ingredients in slowly to make sure the skin is healthy enough to peel.

Can I have a peel before my summer holiday?

We suggest your last peel appointment to be around 4 weeks before sun exposure and waiting 4 weeks after. This reduces the chance of irritation and damage seen by UV. This also includes snow/ ski holidays.

Is there any age restrictions?

We have age restrictions on all of our treatments at SKIN lounge due safety reasons and the body constantly changing. Alumier peels require a minimum age of 16 years old.
