What happens during waxing?
Using a wooden spatular, a warm wax is applied to the necessary area in the direction of hair growth. A fabric strip is then bonded (rubbed) to the wax, the therapist will then pull the wax strip off removing the wax and hair. The whole area is treated in the same way until all of the hair is removed. All of the items used during your wax are then disposed of appropriately.

Why do you use Australian BodyCare Wax?

Does it hurt?
We are all different, but you should expect some discomfort from this treatment. However we will do our very best to make the process as comfortable as possible.
How long can I expect to be hair free?
This varies from person to person, but you can expect to be beach ready for around two weeks.
What do I need to do before and after my waxing treatment?
Before
- Please do not apply any moisturiser or body oil.
- If you’re really worried about the pain take 2 paracetamol around 40 minutes before your appointment. This can help reduce the surface discomfort.
- Make sure your hair is long enough to remove completely from the roots – it should be at least 0.5 centimetres. If you’ve shaved the area within the last few weeks it might take a couple of waxes to get your hair into a cycle of growth that allows the most effective wax finish.
After
- It’s normal immediately after your wax for a little bit of redness and a prickly heat type rash to appear. This should disappear after a few hours and is normally due to a histamine reaction.
- For 24 hours avoid the following: Sunbathing, swimming, steam or sauna, make up (facial waxing), body lotions, perfumes or touching the waxed area.
- As your skin closes over the hair follicles, the next consideration is to ensure you prevent ingrown hairs. This is when new, often softer hair can get trapped under the skin. Use a soft brush or AlumierMD Lotus scrub to gently buff the area every 2-3 days – this is particularly important after about day 3 through to about the 10th day.
Is there any age restrictions?
We have age restrictions on all of our treatments at SKIN Lounge due safety reasons and the body constantly changing. Any waxing requires a minimum age of 16 years old, anything below 16 will need a parent or guardian consent and to be chaperoned.
