This is one of the most common questions clients ask.

Traditional piercing guns use mechanical force to push a blunt stud through the ear. While widely used in retail settings, they can cause increased tissue trauma due to the pressure-based mechanism.

At our Richmond Hill clinic, we use the Studex System 75, which is neither a traditional gun nor a freehand needle. Instead, it uses a sterile, single-use cartridge system that delivers:

  • Controlled, precise placement
  • Minimal pressure on the tissue
  • A quieter, less intimidating experience
  • Hypoallergenic, medical-grade earrings

A hollow needle piercing, typically performed in specialist studios, can also be a safe option when done by experienced practitioners. However, for standard lobe piercings – particularly for children – the Studex System 75 offers an excellent balance of medical hygiene, precision and comfort.
